Conan
Conan
Conan are as heavy as interplanetary thunder amplified through the roaring black hole anus of Azathoth. Remember that sentence, for it is writ large in virgin blood on the walls of the forgotten temple of Bol-Krastor, deep in the steaming forests of forgotten Lemuria. Conan, a monumentally brutal three piece (in the grand tradition of all the hallowed three pieces through time) hold a sinew-tight line and an iron-grip command over the uber-synchronised powerchord changes and tempo-shifts of the anti-holy trio of bass, drums and guitar. Two weary yet defiant men have the task of vocalising wretched thoughts over the turgid weight of Conan’s metalized bombast. They bear it well, for the task is immense.

Hear the roar of battle. Smell the stench of split blood. A thousand heads piled high like a grim mound of suffering - a blasphemy to nature. Hail Conan!
The Ditch And The Delta
The Ditch And The Delta
The devil is in the details with The Ditch. The expanded harmony and tension, as well as the unique rhythms are, in part, due to Secrist’s studies and degree in Jazz Composition. The band calls their brand of sludgy/noise/doom, “Big Riff”. Employing different tunings, and modal centers, every song The Ditch writes manages to avoid many of the usual doom trappings of excessive feedback, static harmony, and pentatonic riffs. The Lyrical content deals with everyday life and the constant suppression and alienation that comes with it. Three men from Mormon dominated Utah are bound to have a lot of resentment and disdain for the mono culture they exist in day to day.
Stone Deaf
Stone Deaf
Formed in late 2014 in New Castle, Colorado Stone Deafʼs approach to music is a timeless fusion of melody and driving rhythms blending the rock vibes of The Hellacopters and Thin Lizzy with the sludgy thickness of Kyuss and Corrosion Of Conformity, changing gears between chugging riffs, bluesy rock and laid back moments of unadulterated heaviness. With their eponymous debut being released on Black Bow Recordings and their 2018 follow up Royal Burnout on their own label the band is no stranger to hard work. To top it off they have release three videos, for their tracks ‘Boozy Spool’, ‘Spitshine’ and ‘Buzzards’. Stone Deaf provides a soundtrack to your drive into oblivion. Their tightly refined sound has gotten them key opening slots for everyone from Conan and Mac Sabbath to Hed PE.
Stone Deaf emerged from a small town in the desert in strange circumstances. Frontman Dust Chapin wrote the first record on his own due to frustration with a lack of musicians in his area. As luck would have it, he owns a pizza shop working alongside bassist Cody Isaman. By some sort of act of God the guys met their conspirators guitarist/keyboardist Scott Anderson and drummer Jarron French through the restaurant. When you find out that Dust Chapin’s mother was a close friend of Hunter S Thompsons, it all locks into place – this band has always known the true meaning of weird.

Inspired by ethereal desert landscapes and bizarre life circumstances there is a certain madness that serves to make the bands unique stoner rock stomp special. This is the sound of ancient aliens poking through the lonely AM waves, the light of the radio your only company in the vastness of sonic absolution. It is David Lynch inspired sonic palette to accompany the hope of lights in the distance under a dome of desert stars. With a bevy of tours under their collective belts all around the great American West and with many more yet to come, it’s time to leave your watch behind, forget about the grind and soak in the sounds of the middle of nowhere.
