Leyna Noel is a singer and multi-instrumentalist from San Francisco whose music deals alternately in mellow meditations and heavy, mood-swept confrontations. Placing her clear, bell-like voice at the center, and using spare, deliberate accompanient, she crafts potent, emotionally-charged art songs that draw on a nomadic childhood spent on the auto racing circuit (no lie), advanced studies in electro-acoustic compostion and theory at Mills and a rich personal canon of vocal music. Her band, the Finer Things, currently features Erase Errata drummer Bianca Sparta and New, Improved Recording headmaster Eli Crews, and has also included members of Viking Moses, SF luminaries Tussle, Grass Widow, Yes Please, and Citay. She has also toured as a member of K Records recording artist Mirah’s band and has shared bills with Joanna Newsom, Six Organs of Admittance, Dirty Projectors, Phosphorescent, Freakwater, Matt & Kim, The Blow and High Places. On tour to celebrate her fourth album, slated for early summer ’09, the first to wholeheartedly embrace her powerful live sound without extensive overdubs or studio translation
