If you’re Portland drums-n-synths trio Hot Victory, you can really play with anyone. Your music—which sounds kind of like band’s the name would suggest: Metallic, bombastic, trippy, uplifting and often rudderless for long stretches—is its own animal, and to try and completement your sound by finding aesthetically like-minded bands is a waste of time. So why not play beside dirty Seattle post-hardcore outfit Helms Alee and Chico, Calif.-based instrumental postrock quintet La Fin du Monde (which, contrastingly, sounds very little like its name)? Anything goes! And no matter who Hot Vic plays with, I dare say the band is a shoe-in to steal the show.
