BAND
Dave Houghton of Fancy Trash

Fancy Trash works the line between rock and folk, blending a non-traditional sensibility with the tradition of acoustic instruments to make something unique—Spazzy folk-tinged acoustic indie rock.

Fancy Trash formed in August 2002 when Singer/Guitarist Dave Houghton moved from Boulder, CO to Northampton, MA and met up with bassist Joshua Thayer. They began making strides in the Northeast alongside original drummer Jason Smith. Smith was replaced by Ben Laine, and his diverse and melodic rhythms completed an already earthy and developed sound.

Since cementing the lineup Fancy Trash has toured extensively through the Mid-West, Northeast, South, and up and down the Eastcoast, opened for national acts such as Jesse Malin, Marah, The Jayhawks, Hackensaw Boys, Lucero, BR-549 and The New Amsterdams, and shared bills with notable regional acts like Drunk Stuntmen, Matthew Hebert (Haunt) and Mark Mulcahy.

Fancy Trash’s charged live shows have earned the band a reputation as a successful headliner at venues around the Northeast such as Pete’s Candy Store (NYC), Lizard Lounge (Boston, MA), and The Iron Horse (Northampton, MA).
